Annual report of the use of school sports grant 2017/18

PE AND SPORTS PREMIUM GRANT INTRODUCTION

The PE and Sports Premium Grant is dedicated funding provided by the Government to improve the provision and access to Physical Education and sport within schools. This funding is ring fenced for use in PE and sporting activities and schools are held to account as to how this money is spent.

KEY PRIORITIES

To improve the Physical Education and sport within school, with a focus on increasing participation and access to a variety of sporting opportunities.

As a school we expect to see:

  • A high quality of Physical Education being taught
  • Raised levels of participation in physical activities
  • Improved opportunities to access Physical Education
  • Allowing students to experience a wide variety of sports and activities

PE/Activity Scheme development

Further development of PE schemes of work, time dedicated for PE Coordinator to plan and supporting colleagues to enhance their skills to deliver sports and enrichment opportunities.

Improved access to PE and a wider and more diverse range of curriculum delivery.

Dedicated Staff for PE / Enrichment

To facilitate timetabled PE and Enrichment activities which are co-ordinated and evaluated by PE/Enrichment Co-ordinator.

Focused teaching enables students access to a wide range of sporting/enrichment activities.

To facilitate students with an interest in sport related post 16 studies.

Access to sport related placements, including placement and travel costs.

External providers

Development of PE scheme including delivery from external sports specialists to increase participation and allow students to access new sporting opportunities. The school has had external support from Leicester City Football Club.

Improved participation from students. Exposure to new experiences and increase in fitness/health and wellbeing, resilience and team working skills.

OVERVIEW OF WAYS IN WHICH THE GRANT HAS BEEN USED

Staffing

  • Funding a specialist member of staff to deliver high quality PE and Enrichment activities within school. Allowing development and training of other staff to increase confidence and knowledge of delivering PE.
  • Physical Activity workshops (External providers) – Football training, multi sports and badminton.
  • Staffing to facilitate access for Year 11 students to undertake sport related work experience outside of school hours.

RESOURCING

  • Purchase of additional sports equipment – football kits and badminton equipment.
  • Support the cost of external providers
  • Provide offsite Physical Educational visits – taster sessions

HOW WILL IMPACT BE MEASURED?

Effective planning and delivery of PE/Activity Sessions

  • Teachers/ TA’s will be able to confidently deliver high quality PE lesson to all students.
  • Schemes of work will show a variety of types of sports and ways in which to involve students.
  • Pupils will receive lessons from a trained and experienced PE member of staff.

Greater participation of all students in PE and sporting activities

  • Focus on whole school approach to allow access for all students regardless of their medical needs.
  • Students to have access to activities in and out of school. Support to broaden the student’s access and knowledge of a variety of sports.

Observations and assessment

  • Attendance and progress are recorded for all students accessing PE lessons.
  • Survey of students to identify activities which they would like to try/ continue to have access to.
  • Schemes of work in place and accessible by all staff.
  • Staff are formally observed teaching PE.
  • Prince’s Trust PE based modules

FUTURE PLANS

  • Award / Qualification for students (award to be confirmed)
  • Baseline assessments for all students in PE
  • Audit of resources and upgrade of equipment
  • Continue with offer a broad range of PE activities with both internal and external providers
