Children’s Hospital School: Research projects 2016-17

AFTAA Teacher Led Research Group

We have 7 members of staff who are engaging in research projects within the school and are being supported through the Ash Field Teaching Academy Alliance (AFTAA).

The aim of the AFTAA Teacher Led Research Group is to support participants to:

• find out more about how an innovation, intervention or activity is working
• gather evidence of impact
• gather evidence to support hunches

Alison Wilcox from NASEN and Alison Fox from the University of Leicester are both supporting the group.   Alison Fox has set up an accessible on line journal for teachers to view and share research called Research4&BYteachers  (https://uolschoolpartnershipresearch.wordpress.com/)

The specific research projects at Leicester Hospital School this year are:

• The effectiveness of communications and transitions within the Leicester Royal Infirmary (Jenny March / Anila Patel)
• Teaching practical science in a hospital (Elizabeth Hope)
• Tracking of academic and emotional progress for inpatient CAMHS (Tom Hopkins)*
• Influence of environmental factors upon wellness and how we might be able to harness this knowledge for the good of the students (Steven Pepper / Oli Jeffcote)**
• Effectiveness of strategies to improve attendance (Diane Davies)

* Supported by QNIC and other units
** Supported by De Montfort University, Faculty of Interior Design
