Jon Ashworth, Labour MP for Leicester South, attends the Macmillan Coffee Morning at Willow Bank Day School
Jon visited Willow Bank Day School on Friday 28 September to meet staff and students and attend their Coffee Morning.
Jon said: “I have been attending Macmillan Coffee Mornings every year since I was elected a Member of Parliament. It is an excellent fundraising event making a positive change for such an important cause.”
Willow Bank Day School, which is part of The Children's Hospital School, provides education for students aged 11-16 who are unable to attend their own school for medical reasons. The school works closely with CAMHS and NHS staff so that the right level of support is available. Each student has a personalised timetable comprising core and foundation subjects.
Jon commented: “I am looking forward to meeting students and staff of Willow Bank Day School and learning more about the school. I know that the school does a fantastic job in ensuring that every students’ academic needs are met, whilst taking into account health and emotional factors.”
The school supports students to return to mainstream education and for those in year 11, who are looking to move to college or employment, Willow Bank Day School has a Personal Advisor from Connexions to support them with their decisions.
Stephen Deadman, Headteacher at The Children’s Hospital School, commented: “As a school, we have always supported the Macmillan Coffee Mornings as it is a charity very close to our hearts. We are grateful that Jon is able to visit the school to see how we support children who are missing school due to ill health. Jon will be able to see first-hand how wonderful our students are and they are looking forward to serving him with coffee and cake. I know, that as a local MP, Jon has been very supportive of the school over the years and continues to take an interest in future developments to meet the needs of children in Leicester.”
