Our Teaching and Learning Principles:

All students receiving home tuition through our Outreach Service benefit from a fully personalised learning experience; the individual is at the heart of our curriculum and is paramount. We endeavour to:

  • listen to a student’s voice
  • build teaching and learning experiences based on positive relationships with a student
  • know individual students and their learning needs
  • support students’ needs through adaptation of the curriculum
  • build learning on individual objectives and learning styles
  • help pupils establish positive self-esteem
  • deliver fun and engaging lessons

We believe that Learning happens when:

  • the curriculum and its delivery is interesting, inspiring, engaging, motivating and stimulating
  • the pace is right for the student
  • the opportunity for the unplanned is allowed to happen
  • a varied curriculum is accessible and offers lots of opportunities for learning
  • learners are active
  • teaching and learning is age appropriate and interesting
  • students’ learning targets are appropriate, realistic and promote progress
  • is based on the experiential where possible

The Curriculum:

The Outreach Service aim to meet the needs of all learners and provide specialist subject teaching in the following areas:

English / English Literature              Film Studies

*Where ever possible we will support a student’s mainstream subject choices in Key Stage 4

Wherever possible, students receiving home tuition through our Outreach Service will follow the programme of study and curriculum set by their home school. Where adaptations are necessary staff will ensure that the programme of study is matched closely to students’ needs.

If the programme of study from a student’s home school is unavailable, the Outreach Service follow the National Curriculum and are guided, when appropriate, by the Department for Education’s ‘Assessment Principles’.
